There's always a lot of buzz around this time of year, when college bball kicks off. But this year there's a lot of buzz about the Big Sky. This is the conference that cherry-picked the top coaches from the top d2 conference and have allowed their respective coaches to mold their team just how they like.
"The Big Sky looks more like the Big East this year," Alcorn State coach uchuskies stated emphatically at the conference news conference just last week,"from top to bottom this conference is stacked!"
"In the North, East Wash and Montana State are very good. I really like Montana State," Weber State coach zhawks continued,"and in the South there's Prairie View A&M, who are the best team in the conference in my opinion. They are going to be a tough game, but we're looking forward to it. After them you have Southern and us. We're close talent-wise, it will be interesting to see how that plays out. And then you can't forget about uch at Alcorn. They have a very good team, they just play in a damn fine conference. They'd be a top team anywhere else in the nation. But in the Big Sky they are prolly the 4th team in the south. That Freshmen they got, he is going to surprise some people this year."
The division does indeed look like the Big East. The Big Sky has 8 nt contenders and at least 6 teams that look like preseason locks. With 3 teams in the early season bidding for a #1. Prairie View A&M, East Wash, Montana State, Southern, Weber and Alcorn all look like nt teams, while the loss of metsmax from Sac State leaves them in doubt but they have the talent to make an nt berth. Northern Arizona looks like a pi team that could sneak into the nt.
For the other coaches they are in their first year at their respective schools. They look to rebuild and start something here in the Big Sky. Let's just hope that someone told them what they're in for.
Could the Big Sky be home to this season's National Champion?
